Parents

We aim to provide the highest quality careers education, independent advice and guidance possible to raise the aspirations of our students and ensure they reach their full potential.

We help students to

  • Find out about careers and the world of work

  • Develop employability skills

  • Take responsibility for planning their career pathway

This is delivered in a variety of ways, including:

  • Tutor time

  • Assemblies

  • Visits to and from employers, colleges and universities

  • Visiting speakers

  • Careers interviews

  • Activities delivered within curriculum areas

  • Visits to workplaces and encounters with employers

  • Our annual Careers Evening

  • Events held in school eg. Army days, WOW days, Post 16 Options events

Our Careers Coordinator, Jodie Longstaff, is available throughout the year to support pupils in all year groups. All students will have an individual guidance meeting in year 10 or 11 and all pupils in year 9 will be supported in making informed choices about their GCSE options.

She can be contacted through the school reception on 01325 351377 or by email: jodie.longstaff@consilium-at.com

Careers Evening

This year our Careers evening happened on Thursday 8th February from 6pm to 7.30pm in the Main Hall. This was an opportunity for you and your child to talk to staff at local colleges and apprenticeship providers and start to make plans.

Following this most pupils in year 11 will then visit colleges of interest at one of their Open Events and see for themselves what is on offer.

Part-time work is a great way to build your cv, gain valuable experience and earn some money.

There are strict rules about the hours young people can work and the types of work they can do. These rules exist to protect them and stop employers asking them to do too much. Darlington Borough Council is responsible for enforcing the Child Employment laws within our area. The employer of any school-age child is required to apply for a work permit before the child starts work. Click here for the most recent rules.

We welcome feedback from parents and carers and use it to improve our careers offer.
