Post 16 Education & Training Providers

When you leave Wyvern you have a completely free choice as to where you go next.

You might decide to aim for University, go to college, join the Armed Services or apply for apprenticeships, the choice is yours. We have collected together information on the most common options, to make it easy for you to start your research.

Sixth form colleges: A levels are academic qualifications mainly offered by sixth form colleges. They are an excellent preparation for further study at University.

General vocational colleges: offer a variety of courses, usually linked to one area of work. Their courses tend to be more practical than A levels and assessments are usually a mixture of tests and coursework/practical assessments

Specialist colleges: are colleges that specialise in one area of work or study.

Apprenticeship providers: An apprenticeship, which must last for a minimum of 12 months, combines hands-on work with the opportunity to train and obtain qualifications. It’s also a paid position, so you earn while you learn. At least 20% of your time is set aside for learning, usually at a college, university or training provider. The rest of your time is spent applying your knowledge and skills in the actual workplace, doing the job that you set out to get. At the end of it, you’ll gain official certification, which will be equivalent to traditional qualifications. You get one by researching, applying, being interviewed and being the best candidate. Some training providers specialise in training for apprenticeships and can help candidates find vacancies to apply for.

Information for Post-16 providers

We are keen to develop links with local post-16 providers to give our students a wide variety of careers experiences throughout their five years at Wyvern.

Our Careers Evening, held annually in the autumn term, is an opportunity for universities, colleges, and other post-16 providers to meet students and discuss any suitable opportunities individually.

We also welcome visits from University staff to support us in our work to raise the aspirations of all our students.

If you, or your colleagues, would like to support us with this work or attend our Careers Evening, please contact our Careers Coordinator, Jodie Longstaff at jodie.longstaff@consilium-at.com.
