About Consilium

Consilium Academies is a multi-academy Trust working across the North of England. It has nine academy schools located in Yorkshire, the North West, and the North East. Consilium is dedicated to enriching lives and inspiring ambitions for both students and colleagues.

Uniform

It is our school policy that all students wear the school uniform when attending school, representing the school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. Uniform is compulsory and a condition of accepting a place at Wyvern Academy.

  • All students to wear blazers at all times in school

  • No outdoor coats to be worn in the classroom or dining room

  • No makeup to be worn

  • No fake tan, false nails, or nail varnish to be worn

  • No facial/body piercings of any description. One small pair of stud earrings can be worn

  • No jewellery to be worn

  • No hats, hoodies, footless/patterned tights, or over the knee socks to be worn

  • No extreme haircuts

  • No chewing gum

Aims and objectives

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the academy

  • Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school

  • Is practical and smart

  • Identifies the student with the academy

  • Prevents students from coming to school in fashionable clothes that could be distracting in class

  • Makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance

  • Is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents

  • Is designed with health and safety in mind

Most of our uniform is widely available and consists of:

  • Black straight leg school trousers which reach to below the ankle (no jeans or leggings) OR

  • Black, knee-length, pleated school skirt (not in jersey).

  • Shirt, plain white with proper collar (polo shirts are not permitted).

  • Black tights or knee-length socks in black or white.

There are two uniform items which must be sourced from particular suppliers:

  • Tie Wyvern stripe – available from the school (1 tie given free to all new starters).

  • Blazer, black with school logo - available only from ALR Embroidery, 155 North Road, Darlington, DL1 2PS
    01325 240251.

Sensory Clothing

This can be purchased from various stockists as part of reasonable adjustments for pupils who require Sensory clothing. We request that sensory clothing is matched to the school uniform.

Jewellery

Jewellery such as necklaces bracelets and rings are not permitted under any circumstances. This also includes all forms of body piercing except one small pair of stud earrings, which may be worn.

Extreme haircuts

The school does not permit students to have extreme haircuts (e.g. Mohican, skinhead, sculpting etc).

Tattoos

Parents should also be aware that tattoos are not permitted.

Make-up

Make-up, nail varnish, and false nails of any sort are not permitted under any circumstances.

Ties

All students must wear ties as detailed above. Lost ties must be replaced as soon as possible. These must be paid for via ParentPay and collected from the Main Office. (www.parentpay.com)

Footwear

The school wants all students to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for students to wear shoes with platform soles or high heels in school, so we do not allow this. Nor do we allow students to wear trainers as these are not in keeping with the smart appearance of the school uniform.

Any note from home to say that the wearing of trainers has been suggested by a doctor must be accompanied by a note from the doctor. Sandals, flip-flops, or backless shoes should not be worn. Boots may not be worn in school. Students wearing boots to travel to school in adverse weather conditions must bring shoes to change into when they arrive.

Please note:

  • We have high expectations that all students are of a smart and respectable appearance, dressed in the correct uniform. (Sensible “business dress” hairstyles should be worn.
No artificial colours – blue, red, green etc. If in doubt, please check with the school before spending money).

  • All students require a school bag in which to carry possessions.

  • Bags and clothing must be clearly marked with the student's name.

The role of parents

We ask all parents/carers who send their child to our school to support the school uniform policy. We believe that parents/carers have a duty to send their child to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily schoolwork. One of the responsibilities of parents/carers is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and that it is clean and in good repair.
